Janet Waters – Chair of Governing Body

Currently Chair of Governors and a community governor since 2006. I am passionate about educating, enabling and empowering all young people so that they can achieve their full potential. I bring my experience of a lifelong career in education to the role in a variety of secondary schools as teacher, school leader, national adviser and inspector and will always challenge and support Beaumont Leys School’s ambition to improve. It was a privilege to be part of the panel that appointed Mrs Parkinson to the co – headship and then as head teacher last year. I enjoy the opportunity to act as a critical friend to the school and improve the effectiveness of the work we all do as governors. I am happily married, enjoying retirement doing voluntary work, mountaineering and having time with four lovely grandchildren in primary education locally and in Germany.

Liz Warren – Local Authority Governor – Vice Chair of Governors

I relocated from Kent in 2012 to become Strategic Lead for the Primary Headteachers in Leicester. This involves, amongst other roles, working with schools and partner organisations in Children’s Services. I often work alongside my counterpart in the Secondary sector.

I have been in Primary Education for most of my career, as class teacher, SEN specialist and then Headteacher at three schools. As a Local Leader of Education I supported schools in their improvement journey and was deployed by the Local Authority in Kent as an Additional Governor to support weaker Governing Bodies. I was a Vice-Chair of a group of primary and secondary schools that worked together in an Excellence Partnership.

My own interests are currently finding my way around Leicestershire with my husband, by way of walks and pubs, and enjoying being able to access facilities and family that come from being based on the middle of the country. Our two children are grown up after their very different paths through their education.

I enjoy being a Governor at a secondary school, with a taste of the challenges and joys involved, and feel that my own background allows me to bring a range of skills to support the Leadership team and Governors at Beaumont Leys as the school becomes outstanding.

Phil Wood - Co-Opted

I am currently the vice-chair of the Governing Body having joined the Governing Body in 2011. I am currently a Senior Lecturer in Education at the School of Education, University of Leicester, with an interest in how we learn. This allows me the privilege to visit and work with many schools and colleges in the region.

Before coming to the university I spent 10 years teaching Geography, Geology and Philosophy in secondary schools in Lincolnshire. I now work with international students at both masters and doctorate level, developing new insights into classroom practice, teaching and learning. My other great passion is Leicester Tigers rugby club which I’ve followed since I was 5 years old.

Gail Brown – Co-Opted

I have been Education Co-ordinator at Leicestershire Cares, since October 2006 and I am passionate about improving the lives of children, young people and their families across Leicester and Leicestershire. Leicestershire Cares works in the fields of education, community safety, homelessness, community development and with care leavers. The varied programme of work is undertaken through a network of dedicated volunteers who are employees of local companies and my role has involved the design, implementation and management of several projects which continue to improve the literacy, numeracy and employability skills of thousands of children and young people in schools across the city and county every year.

I have worked closely with Beaumont Leys School and its staff over the last few years supporting Year 10 and 11 students as part of our Interview Technique project and Year 7s as part of our Go for Reading project. More recently, I have had greater involvement through the areas of Career Education Information and Guidance (CEIAG) and employability attending the CEIAG Hub and engaging with the school to develop our employability work. Through strong links to local employers, this work has provided successful apprenticeship opportunities and developed a large scale, cross year group initiative piloted at Beaumont Leys in November 2013.

Kaveh Bagheri – Co-Opted

As a former student at Beaumont Leys school, it is incredible to see the progression and I feel proud to be able to help its continuing progress.

With a passion for business, I work with FTSE250 companies to help them improve their profitability. This has ranged from joint business planning with the top 4 supermarkets to now implementing clean energy strategies within a business as a cost saving measure, investment plan or corporate social responsibility. Outside of the FTSE250, I also work with schools and small medium enterprise offering clean energy solutions. Over the past 2 years this has led to my company establishing Europe’s largest renewable asset fund for renewable technology.

Outside of business, I love to jump on the bike [weather permitting] for sportive cycles and have recently completed the Ironman ultra-triathlon which consisted of a 2.4 mile swim, 112 mile cycle and a 26 mile run.

I aim to introduce methods of funding and improving the opportunities for the children of the school.

Hitesh Pandit – Co-Opted

I am a former pupil of the school, local to the area and married with two children, aged 12 and 8. My son started at the school in 2014.

I’m a career auditor, having previously worked in the local government sector and currently work in the financial services sector. I hold professional accountancy and auditing qualifications. Education has always been important to me and I think it’s important the school provides a safe and secure platform for young people to maximise and achieve their educational and career potential.

My work has enabled me to develop knowledge and experience covering a broad range of topics such as board and executive governance; risk management; project management; financial planning and budgetary control. I believe that I contribute to the school governing body by utilising my experience to provide both support and effective challenge.
